Default bent crossmember

hey guys. i just picked up my s2k last weds. so i'm now the proud 2nd owner of a silverstone (?) s2k. but...the guy spun out in 2000 one time and bent the cross member (all cosmetics i.e. hood, fenders, wheel, etc) was replaced. anyway, long story short, the crossmember wasnt replaced. i know there is camber wear on a stock ride height, but is this something i should definately fix? or you think i could get away with a camber kit for the front? how bad would this affect the handling? i saw the dent in the crossmember; it doesn't look bad at all, looks like he jacked it up from the wrong spot...anyway. thanks!

pictures?

camber wear is bad if you are on stock height. i would take it to an alignment shop and get them to check and see what is the cause of the wear because getting a camber kit on a stock height car makes no sense

i am an alignment tech, and for what its worth i would NOT use a camber kit to correct wear issues from bent parts. that is very unsafe. i would highly recommend replacing bent parts first, then get an alignment. i am sure you could drive around with the bent part, but once you start tying to compensate for bent parts without addressing the issue, it becomes unsafe.

I wouldn't have bought that one. Go get it checked by a professional. There may be a bunch of trouble you aren't seeing.

amen, all damage are unique, esp in a small unibody car, some minor damage can't even be fix without pouring alot of green.

I hope you got the car dirt cheap, because you might need to spend some money on fixing it.

one of my gf's friend had a minor accident with his mini cooper in the parking lot, BMW quote him for 8k to 14k for the damage. he wasn't even going 5mph.

argh, i picked up the car for a deal. but replacing the crossmember myself will cost 700 for the part. any suggestions on where to find a cheap one? i may check out a junk yard, but i doubt anyplace in sf or near it would have a s2k there. it's slightly bent and has wear on the inner side of the right tire. he said it was bent from spinning out in 2000 and had all the parts replaced (not knowing they didnt replace this one). how difficult would it be to change out the cross member?

oh, i just noticed that when i drive with the top up that i notice a lot of noises coming from the transmission. do you think i should try to just change the fluid? how much does it cost to rebuild a transmission (worst case scenario)? thanks!!

well i talked to my coworkers (mechanics) and they said it should be fine. the side it is damaged is off by .5 degrees of camber. (factory reccomends -.5 but is reading +.1) i guess this isnt that bad? i'm guessing lowering it would do it better? will i need a camber kit if i drop it with esplier springs on stock shocks? (will eventually replace with koni yellows)

I say replace everything that's broken. you're never going to be able to enjoy the car to its full potential if you've got broken suspension parts since handling is the forte of the s2000. In fact it's outright dangerous. Call HAP. they're in rancho cordova and specialize in hondas. I got both lower control arms for $150 shipped from my local yard so they shouldn't charge u much for a subframe. I can get one new for $490.16.

I would also suggest having everything checked by a frame machine to make sure your chassis isn't hurt badly anywhere.
