Have you checked your battery and/or alternator? Maybe the smell you smelled was the alternator frying and you were only able to drive until the battery died and your symptom of the car barely turning over would be from a dead battery. Just all speculation considering you report that it goes into all gears normally, the engine is turning by hand, etc. The only other thing I can think of is maybe part of the clutch came apart from an extended idle period. Hard to say for sure though, still shouldn't prevent the car from starting though.

I think Jordan is on the right track. Its not the clutch that smelled, it was something else. Forget clutch and diagnose like any other 'won't start' issue.

It sounds like it doesn't crank well. So check the battery, not just is it charged, but will it hold a charge. Check starter, etc.

I know with most bikes they don't produce enough juice at idle to keep the battery fully charged. Its not until engine is reving some that it can charge it. I wonder if S is similar. I am not sure with bikes if this is a strategy to get every last hp to the ground, or some design restraint around high redline. Either way, the same might apply to S.

So maybe batt was not getting charged, and was getting weaker and weaker during the movie. The last straw was it getting sucked down to nuthin starting back up to leave gas station. Then alternator tries to charge back up this almost dead batt. Not enough juice to generate good spark, and something smokes trying to charge up batt from dead, either batt itslef or alternator.

Explains all the symptoms and sequence they occured.

I don't see how idling for any amount of time would cause clutch issues or cause the engine to stop.

I would think the battery light may came come on if the alt was to blame but maybe not...I don't know what specifically triggers that light.

Agree that you should treat this as a no-start issue before looking at the clutch.

Okay so I go the car started.

I had the valves adjusted 2 months ago and they mechanic assured me everything was fine.

The car started and is now making a very very very horrible knocking sound coming from what sounds to be the head.

I have replaced the timing chain tensioner with an Inline Pro upgraded one.

There is a check engine light, but the mechanic said that it simply says its a V-Tec problem. I am going to try to run the code today, I'm going to go pick up a cheap OBD2 reader to do so. When I get the actual code I'll post it up.
