Default Battery tender question

Hi all,

My car is now in storage and I was considering putting a battery tender on.

Am I safe to hook a battery tender up while the battery is installed in the vehicle? Is there any chance of causing a short and damaging anything such as my computer eCu or any other parts of the electrical system? Is it safer to completely remove the battery or remote terminals?

Thanks for any help

I always remove the vehicle connectors, it's easy enough to do. While it may be completely safe to leave them on while charging, and the chance of damage is low, I prefer to keep the charging away from the vehicle systems. You can leave the battery in the car. Most of the time I just remove the negative cable for short-term charging of the battery, but I would do both for longer term winter maintenance.

I would leave connected. That way ecu won't forget its settings. Its safe. Battery Tender charges much slower with less energy than the cars charging system does. So less juice going into cars electrical system than when car is running.

On my Lexus, which can sit for weeks, I leave the charger on the car. It has short protection so it's all good.

I pulled the battery and put it inside the house. I put the tender on it every two weeks.

I actually have a connector on the car just under the wiper so I just pull the cover and hook it up to the charger without even opening the hood. Leave it until I need to go driving... the charger adjusts from charge mode to maintain.
