Its not a short. I can almost guarantee you have no voltage to the alternator field. Field voltage comes through the green connector on the back of the alternator.

Haha, a shop woul work but have you done any diagnotic work with your multimeter yet?

What do the volts read at the battery while the car is idling?

The alternators are not pushing any voltage at all. what you are reading is battery voltage feeding back to the alternator.

The field needs to be powered to work.

Check the voltage at the green connector at the back of the alternator. Unplug it and check it.

With the key OFF, measure voltage at every single terminal. There are 4 terminals. Write down the voltage for each wire, and its color.

Now with the key ON, measure the voltage again. Write them all down again. Post it all for ME and i'll tell u how to fix your car

In general, 2 wires should become live with the key on to energize the field.

Most shops are stupid and tell you that the alternator is bad, without even checking the field voltage. Because it is out of the realm for normal parts changing mechanics. s2ki is where you come to fix your s2k

Ok so i been doing some testing and stuff using the service manual and I think ive tracked it down to a ground wire.

It says Page 4-24 Step 7

7. Check for continuity between the ECM connector C terminal No. 2 and the body ground.

Is there contintuity?

Yes - Repair short to ground in the wire between the alternator and ecm

Then dont tell you were the ground is..

Im unsure of how to do this.. i put the positive terminal in the connector C terminal No. 2 and put the neg. to a ground bolt inside by the hood relese

As I searched alittle I see the alt is grounded by the block.. Ive got a huge ground wire from when I swapped the motors thats not hooked but to the frame, I thought it was an extra one that I left on the frame cause the engine I bought had all those cables on it still.. but then again i had to have the ground off to put the engine in cause it would get in the way.. So... im guessing this is my problem,

Now the qusestion is were does the ground bolt to on the block? manual only says middle of engine.. Is it somewere by the knock sensor
