Just installed a brand new alt after mine had went out (Tested bad diode), got it and installed it today and now my brake and battery light have come on as I started driving it.. Had the battery on the trikle charge while I waited for the alt to come in.. Any ideas.. maybe one of the bolts or something is not tight enough, battery is brand new.. well it got drained and I charged it back up but its only a week old power optima yellow top.

How long have you had the new alternator installed? From my experience with other cars, the dash lights come on if the alternator is going out. I would make sure that the belt tension is to spec.

Had the brand new alt on there and fired it first time and lights came on.. took it off took it back and it tested bad, so they are going to replace it but I haft to wait another week for it to come in witch sucks cause I had to wait a week to get that last one in..

Was it brand new from a local auto store like Kragen? Those are usually rebuilt and are hit or miss.

Did you follow the directions about uninstalling and reinstalling battery cables correctly?

Ya it was brand new from Advanced Auto they are the only one in town that could even order it.. Didnt go to the dealer cause... well you know

Yes sir.. They tested it and they said it was only putting out 11volts. New one shoould be in Thursday along with my c.a.i.

Need help ASAP

Still having no luck with this problem ive been having posted above.. returned 4 alternator and killed 5 brand new batterys 1 being a power optima yellow top 850 cold cranking amp.. I had this last alt checked at the store before I took it home ( yesterday ) and installed it and it tested good I installed it and the battery and the brake light were no longer on but the battery is still dieing while im driving it, it can sit for 2 weeks with a new battery and I go out and it fires right up but when I drive it around the eps light comes on and no longer works, radio shuts off, abs light comes on, dash lighs dim out and tach stops working all together... So its like the alt is not charging the car at all?

I didnt really think of this untill just now when I had to swap out the battery because it was so low it wouldnt put the top or windows up with the car running..

I dont have the header or battery heat shield installed on the car you think this would cause the batterys to die?
