Battery charger - leave battery connected or not.?
I just want to charge the battery in my porsche 914, but i have never used a battery charger. I just bought one at K-mart for $70.00..... anyway.... do i disconnect the battery or just leave it the way it is?

As long as you are not going to do a "high rate" charge, you should be fine with leaving the battery connected. The high rate settings on some chargers can put 16-20 volts on the system, and I'm not sure how happy some of the electronics will be with that.
If you are worried, just disconnect the battery anyway. I would suggest disconnecting both lines though, if you just remove ground (which you should remove first) and you do something silly like short the negative charger cable to the chassis while positive is connected to the battery, you'd still put the higher voltage into the car's electrical system.
BTW - what year? I had a '76 I dearly loved, possibly the best handling car I've ever driven. Mine was stock (almost) Koni's, bumped up the master cylinder to 19mm, tweeked the F/R brake bias, ran Yokahoma A001R's on the street, and could do 60-0 in 115 feet. Sweet.
