I'll keep you all informed about what the dealer technician discovers.

The serial number is written in large letters on the right hand side of the engine block if you are standing in front of the hood. There is a horizontal lip about 6 inches from the top of the engine where the number is written. Use a flash light and you will see the number.

Regarding serial numbers, the quote below states all engines with a serial number of 1025386 and above have the new bolts.

Hope this helps,

I got on the banjo bolt bandwagon today. Yesterday at lunch Dick Weber, Valley Motor's owner, and I went over the parts explosions on line and came up with part#15290-PCX-000 and $13.83 each full retail. I confirmed that part number on some threads on this board today.

Today I talked with Ken Weber in Parts and Joe Hruska in service and they'll get bolts for me and install them when they come. Joe and I talked about the problem getting to the #1 cylinder's bolt. I think it will go great...and most important to me, having Valley Motor do it will mean the warranty is in tact.

Joe said he remembered a recall on Honda Accord engines that Honda did first in Europe and then later in the U.S., so he was kind of a bit hopeful AHM might follow Honda Europe's lead on oil jet bolts at some time.

Oh yes. The part is backordered. But we all knew that already.

I had the dealer do mine. They charged 4 hrs labor. Figured that this way my certified warranty would stay in effect.

I agree that this summarizes what has been posted.

However, from what I have seen posted, I don't see how flow though the cross drilled holes can be the problem.

The inlet hole in the end of the bolt is 1.1 mm (service manual), which has an area half or less than than the total area of the cross drilled holes for either 2 or 4 hole versions, if the posted sizes of the holes are correct (can't find it now so I won't quote a number; search still dead; but posted pictures of bolts appear to confirm). And the nozzle is 1.2 mm (service manual) so the cross holes are between two much smaller restrictions in the flow.

So what is going on? All I can think of is some sort of sticking or blocking by the check ball that adding more holes avoids.

The abridged version - These bolts are used to hold oil jets in place in the bottom end of the F20C. They are drilled to allow oil flow, and the new bolts allow more oil volume to pass through them. The jets spray oil up to the undersides of the pistons, cooling them, so the updated bolts improve this cooling effect. There was a recall in Europe to replace these bolts in cars up to early MY 2002 (newer cars have them) to remedy engine failures that occurred after prolonged driving at high speeds (>100 mph). The recall was not deemed necessary in the USA since our driving habits are different than in Europe. Some S2Ki members have replaced the bolts on their own since Honda hasn't stepped up to the plate ... yet
