Default Banjo Bolts: Anyone have them replaced at the dealer (US)?

I have a 2002 S2000 build in Sept. 2001 (pre-banjo bolt update). I am concerned about the European recall and wonder whether I should have the dealer do the TSB. Does anyone know how much this would cost?

I seen posts about people doing it themselves.

Is this something I should really be concerned about?

From what I see, you should be in for no more than 3 hours worth of labor at whatever their labor rate is. Getting the bolts might be the biggest problem, though (don't know if they are off backorder yet). Let me know if the dealer can't get you a set, I can get them from Europe (about a week to ship).

The bolts should run no more than $35 for the set.

Thanks Marcucci, I appreciate the response.

I also sent the information to a local Honda tech who is researching the issue.

I wish Honda would do the recall here in the US.

I'll let you know if I cannot get the bolts. Take care.

I'm sorry...WTH are Banjo Bolts??? I try to keep my ear fairly close to the s2ki.com ground, and I can't recall having seen anything about this. Our semi-search engine clunks along with little help currently.

Thanks in advance for any information.

The abridged version - These bolts are used to hold oil jets in place in the bottom end of the F20C. They are drilled to allow oil flow, and the new bolts allow more oil volume to pass through them. The jets spray oil up to the undersides of the pistons, cooling them, so the updated bolts improve this cooling effect. There was a recall in Europe to replace these bolts in cars up to early MY 2002 (newer cars have them) to remedy engine failures that occurred after prolonged driving at high speeds (>100 mph). The recall was not deemed necessary in the USA since our driving habits are different than in Europe. Some S2Ki members have replaced the bolts on their own since Honda hasn't stepped up to the plate ... yet .

Knifegun,
Please keep us informed on what your Honda dealership says about replacing the bolts and the price they quote you.
Thanks,
mfabry

how does one find out what the cut-off date is for having the old style?....I've done a search on this with much talk about the issue but not how to determine if my MY02 has the new style or not.

It would be nice to know if a vin # could be used so we could tell.
Anyone know this?

According to the threads so far you need to : 1. determine your engine number off the block or paperwork
2. get the cut off # ( I'll let you do the work, it is in a previous thread)
then you determine your status as pre or post
