How bad is your speedometer lag?
I find my speedometer reading lags for a fraction of a second and thought it was normal.

This depends on how fast you stop. All digital speedos have a lag. Do you actually notice a distinct difference from before you disconnected the battery or did you not perhaps make note of it?

OK, I'll take your word for it. You might have gotten some crud into the wiring harness for the speedo sensor on the side of the tranny. You might go under there and disconnect it, clean it out with WD-40, dry it all with compressed air, reconnect it and see if it makes any difference. Check to make sure that none of the wires going into the harness has been damaged. Then reset the ECU by pulling the "BACK UP" fuse under the dash for a minute or so just for good measure. If this doesn't fix it, then you may have a bad speed sensor or instrument cluster as the odometer and speed signals are stored there. Could also be the ECU, too. These would have to be diagnosed by a service tech.
