Question Bad rear diff bearing?

A couple months ago i had a clicking noise, rear, driver side. I ended up changin the cv axle and clicking noise was gone. I'd say maybe 8K miles ago.

Last week i had my clutch changed, $800 out the windows. Now i'm hearing the clicking noise again, when i takeoff. very rarely, but it's there. I feel more torque when i take off, ocassionally like a clanking sound too. I don't "launch" it or do burnouts.

So i raised the car today, and it seems that both cvaxles have some play-up and down. Also when turning the wheels back and forth. Friend of mine said, it could be the propeller bearings going bad

How much play is there suppose to be? what bearings does he mean and what are my options. I don't have a whining noise, although i've got some weird vibrations at around 70mph.

I appreciate any input

Vibration.....Do a search for axle bucket swap. Do it.

Clicking on takeoff.....retorque the axle nuts to 220 AFTER you do the axle bucket swap.

Trust me on this stuff

But my driver side cv axle is new?! how could it possibly be bad already? if so, i'd rather order a new (remanufactored) one and replace the entire thing.
So the up and down and forward/backward play has nothing to do with it?

The axle may be new but the bucket / CV housing that is attached to the diff may be the original one hence worn. (causing the vibrations at 70).

The clicking noise is caused by the axle NUT and not so much the axle itself. Tighten the nut to 220ft lbs and it should be fine.

So lets say i get another one, no way to tell beforehand if they axle bucket is worn?

Still leaves me with the question of the up and down play. i can pull on down on the left cv axle and it has enough play to whereas i can see the other side move with it.

Bottom line is, you guys think it's just the cv axle bucket, not the bearing inside the diff. ?

There are pictures to be found (on s2ki) that clearly show the wear inside the cv bucket.
I think the pictures are in the FAQ.

not the bearing inside the diff. ?
The output shafts don't have their own roller bearings.
IMO they "float".
(hard to explain in a few words)

The diff is mounted on rubber (fluid filled) dampers.
Are you sure you're not pulling the whole diff down?

IMO the vibration is the bucket, the clicking is the axle nut.

Ok, got it all done today. Changed the buckets from side to side - messy job by the way. Retourqued the axle nuts, to 220. Driver side moved a hair, passenger side didnt move at all. Then staked them back and still have the clicking. Not sure about the vibration, havent had a chance to drive yet.
Still clicking

How do you know it still clicks if you have not driven it yet?
