hmm. thinking my mounts could use replacing. I have a 2000. I noticed a little more shifter movement when starting/stopping the motor. and sometimes going over bumps on the highway. Also, under the car, when I move the transmission near the shifter it almost kinda bounces back and forth a little. My mounts appear to have no cracks either.

I have been starting to find this on the s2k.

Using a long prybar, put it on the drivers side shock tower bolt, and pry up and down on the engine under the throttle body. if the mount if broken, you can lift the engine up and down about 1 inch.

I think for the passenger side of the car you can pry on the TCT. It doesnt take much force to lift the engine with a broken mount.

cool. good to know. I remember you talking about this but didnt know where to pry. I guess its the age, the rubber is starting to dry?

Not trying to jack a thread, but I just so happened to notice something awkward with my mounts today. The motor can be moved easy by pushing on the valve cover to one side or the other. And when I rev the car from under the hood, the motor moves a decent amount and kind of jerky if I do quick blips of the throttle. Seems to me, I may have failing motor mounts.

Any opinions?

mine does that as well (i have a my00 with 80k km)

Not sure if its just the nature of the car.

When I start up/turn off the car, I get more noticeable shake and also see it through the shifter, does yours?

Yes, the car does jerk when starting/turning off the car. More noticeable when you turn off the engine though. My car only has 34,000 miles, but it's almost 8 years old, so maybe the rubber is breaking down? I don't think they are broke mounts, just worn possibly. I've just never had a car that had so much engine movement, my 07 SI was very minimal.

I will most likely just get Innovative 75A mounts, or replace with new OEM mounts and get a dampener. I see mixed opinions over an ETD vs motor mounts, but my only concern between the two opinions is whether or not I want to keep OEM fluid filled mounts. From my understanding, they are designed primarily to reduce vibrations and create a "smooth and luxury feel". I'd rather have functionality and reliability over that.

I just replaced both motor mounts in my 01. That took care of most of my vibration issues. But, I'm still noticing the shifter swinging back and forth a good bit when I go over washboard bumps in the road or railroad crossings. So I'm thinking I need to replace the trans mount rubbers too. When I put the car back up on jacks and grab the end of the trans, how much side to side movement is acceptable? Or is there something else I might be missing?
