Bad HID bulb or other issue? Edit. Now hide in. Weird glare spots now.
Had one of my HID bulbs stop working today. If I turn lights off and then back on it will go on but it is really pink/ purple in color and after 1-2 minutes goes off completely.
Sound like a bad bulb or other issue?
It is also quite dim when it's purple.
This is with the oem HID bulbs.
Input would be appreciated before I buy some new bulbs.
Thanks.

If you have time swap the other bulb into the side that is acting up, if it does the same thing then it is the ballast, if not then it's the bulb. A bad ballast can cycle on and off, not sure if a bult will do that too, bulbs just seem to die or go dim. I'd try the swap if you have time and patience.

Yeah was trying to avoid that but if it's the only way to tell I can do that. It was a much bluer tint before this as well but still much brighter which leads me to believe the bulb was dying. I bought the car with 60k miles and I believe stock bulbs. Now at 165k so would imagine it would be sue to die. I replaced the driver side one recently as that one exploded or something.

100% not a stock bulb if it had any sort of blue in it after that many miles,...after 2500hrs oem philips bulbs will be closer to halogen white/yellow than anything.....and if your other bulb exploded, ...def. cheap china made bulbs.
"hidbulbrus" on ebay is the only one selling genuine philips bulbs, you can get a set from him for like 80 bucks i believe ...but if you can deal with paying more, look for the Osram "cib" bulb....amazing light output, most powerful on the market at the moment

there are more knock off philips bulbs than there are civics with "type r" badges
the only way to tell is the salts on the inside of the capsule of the bulb. other wise they will look the same
you need new bulbs anyway after all those miles( i replace mine at least once a year) so just start there
and always replace bulbs in pairs, they will never be the same color if you dont as they "color shift" with use

You can find out what Philips bulbs they are by the number stamped on the base of them. They could just be regular 85122s that have color-shifted and look blueish white now. Always replace bulbs in pairs so they color temps match up!
