Bad differential on MY03 with 7500 miles? Please help diagnose.
Hello all! Havent posted in a while. Anyways, here is the situation. PLEASE HELP.
I hear a thump thump/clunk clunk sound from the rear area of the car while the car is in motion. The sound gets faster as the car gets faster and it gets slower as the car slows down. If this sound is coming from the differential, would it do that?
Also, on some mornings when I try to drive off, the car acts like its still in neutral even IN GEARS. I give it some gas but the car doesnt move. And then suddenly there is a loud POP from the rear of the car and everything is normal from that point on..
What the heck is going on? This is covered under warranty right ??
PLEASE HELP.
(I never clutch drop the car or abuse it what so ever. I dont understand how the differential can go bad on the car with 7500 miles thats been driven this gently.. or is it not a differential problem?)

I changed the diff oil with mobil1 about 2500 miles ago.
also, when I coast in neutral, I can still hear the thumping sound. Bad differential would make the sound coasting in neutral, right ?
Is it ok to drive the car to the dealer?

Sounds like you may have sheared off a few teeth on the pinion and/or ring gear. Those occassional mornings when you don't move till you hear a bang might mean you parked the car in a way that the missing teeth are lined up with its counterpart.
