Default Bad differential mount?

Hi,

I found that one of the circular looking mounts at the rear of the vehicle, behind the diff, seems to be leaking oil. I found oil splattered behind it on the trunk floor, and on the sway bar, and oil is dripping from it.

So, looks like the diff mount has gone bad, I found two aftermarket replacements:

J's "rigid" mounts

Spoon mounts

The J's version appears to be 100% solid. Anyone know? And if it is, is that a good idea?

Thanks!

I've got a pair of used OEM diff mounts for $70 if you're interested.

both seem to be good. the J's would seem to probably make the car alittle more tail happy meaning a little more skidding IMO. the spoon mounts are more OEM inspired but probably made a little better. my choice would probably be the Spoon. just my .02

thanks... well, the j's version looks solid, which means almost no compliance. i figure OEM used fluid-filled mounts for a reason. just wondering if solid mounts are safe.

unless its a race car i wouldnt buy the j's mounts. the spoon mounts are a much better option for a street car. i've installed the j's mounts in a customer car and it is the loudest thing in the car that you will have. the gear noise is transmitted directly to the subframe and in to the cabin. and its not a slight gear noise, you will have trouble hearing your radio and only on partial throttle the noise goes away slightly. but this is only my experience other cars may be different as i have also installed solid mounts in a e46 m3 and that was quiet, and also an e30 325i and that was quiet also.

ah, thanks!..... hmm, that much noise huh?--might not be good for me, since my trunk is already stripped, and it's quite loud as is. how 'bout wear problems on the drivetrain? would something like this damage anything?

i dont think it would do much harm just the noise. im sure the car would feel a little more direct. but in my experience the noise it makes is not a good enough trade off. so i would go spoon.
