Default Backup switch (reverse light switch)

My backup lights do not light up when reverse gear is in.

Light bulbs, under dash fuses are ok.

I need to check continuity on the switch on the transmission.

The honda manual says the transmission needs to be lowered to swap it.

Is there a trick, way, method to change the switch without loosing up the whole transmission.

thank you.

I would use a voltmeter to first measure if there is electrical current on the wires before attempting to drop the transmission to fix your reverse lights. Sounds to me, it's shorting out somewhere.

There is alot of incorrect info in the book. I hope this is one of those cases.

something tells me you can just get under the car and swap it in 5 minutes...I'll check it out...

The manual does not tell you to drop the trans.
edit: well... actually.... it kinda does.....
Not really drop as in: drop the subframe but you have to tilt & lower it.

It does show this fancy tool #1 though.
With the proper tools it looks like to be a 5 min job

The special tool looks like an ordinary crowfoot wrench. Open end wrench with a 3/8" square drive to fit on an extension. Available at Sears or many other tool sources. I don't know what size it is, however.
