Two different issues...one is a vibration, caused from pitting of the inner CV joint. The thread starter cured it by swapping the CV buckets side to side.

Another issue is a single "tink" (creak/pop) when changing direction. This is coming from the axle splines shifting fowards and backwards in the hub.

I honestly don't know if there was an actual TSB on either one.

There was an ARTICLE posted about the creak/pop issue.

Only reverse to foward, and foward to reverse. When you let the clutch out in 1st, one "tink". Then another when you let the clutch out in reverse.

I've done one already and the car is like new again. TIP...the factory band clamps on this car are the most superior design. They can, and SHOULD, be re-used. They could litterally be re-used hundreds of times. A simple pair of pliers easily releases them.
Awesome thread.

MY2000 w/ 42,000 miles (recently lowered) and started to get the shakes (mild).

A local had just purchase the ball joint tool from Honda and this made my job VERY easy. I DID NOT remove the axles from the hub, only from the inner joint / diff. There was some scoring, galling? of the drive side of the inner joint on the drivers side. I have pics but it looks just like the others in this thread only to a lesser degree. Cleaned out as much grease as I could refilled w/ synthetic grease, swapped sides and enjoyed the smoothness.

billman is correct. I bought replacement band clamps just in case but was able to re-use the factory clamps.

Thanks folks.

I'm having the same exact problem with my S and about to replace the CV joint. Quick question, is the passenger side axle longer or shorter of the 2?

Kind regards,
Joe

I have read this thread and various linked/similar ones as well. I'll be swapping my CV joint cups left to right the first part of next week. I want to order Redline Synthetic CV-2 Grease. And I see from their website that I can order it in 14 oz. tubs

Question: How much grease will I need to purchase to re-pack cleaned out CV cups. Seems I'll be ordering 14oz. tub(s) at a time, so one tub?...two?

Thanks in advance
