Is Windows better or worse at capturing data, or at filtering out the spikes?

If written correctly, a DOS program will allow direct control of a port, capture board, and timer. The downside is DOS is significantly harder to program in since no GUI IDEs exist. You have to do some really low-level programming in Windows to get a good timer since Windows itself likes to give you access to timers ONLY through itself (which means the resolution sucks), but by then it's the equivalent of DOS programming, so most people stick with what Windows allows.

This certainly isn't the only issue, but my guess would be the Windows programs are preventing full control over the data logging ability of the hardware.

you guys are missing the point ....... how can a blanket statement be made about the selection of the OS being used possibly cause the car to gain or lose power? if that's truly the case, someone need to pull their fu<king heads out and calibrate .................. otherwise, how you fools going to Bench Race accurately/effectively?
