Do you really think 13.5-13.7 is causing a power loss??? We dropped to 285 at 12.5-13.0, so I figured UL hit the a/f's on the head when he also found 13.5 -13.7 to work best. Again, I am at 5500 ft elevation.

PS- in the 18 pulls we did, we also ran the ratios leaner and richer and found we made safe power for my conditions at the above a/f's. The plugs have been checked every 500 miles and no signs of detonation. Just a lot of mad V-8's!! PS -Many of the local Mustang crowd was present while my car pulled these numbers run after run! Phil

Wow, that's interesting indeed. The way you tune for power is to pull fuel and pull fuel until it loses power or knocks.... If UL did the tuning there then I am sure he did his best to make sure it's running safely!!

He didn't do the tuning, for that matter, neither did I-I was just referring to UL's tuning post I located where he suggests this ratio as picture perfect! UL's optimum A/F ratios just so happen to be optimal for mine also. I have seen a lot of people go different routes, spending a lot more money with less final results than I have had with my set-up! VORTECH ROCKS!!!! PT

PS- I meant to say we had to add fuel throughout most of the curve from the Vortech set-up, then we subtracted some of what was added to the final fine tune.

With the Vortech kits and their timing retard, its not the same sort of issue that you'd see on other kits. That said, every A/F meter reads a little differently. I usually seek max power on an FI kit and then back it off a bit on the mixture. Getting into the 13's on the Vortech kits I've tuned, however, requires richening the mixture by 1-2 points everywhere!!!

I certainly wouldn't run any leaner than that though. And if you plan on tracking the car, richen it up as well. I had a customer, who shall remain unnamed, that came in with an already tuned Comptech kit. It was running a fair bit leaner than I like. I recommended a richer mixture, but it made less power when so tuned. He asked me to return it to its previous setting. I did. Eventually his engine let go. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, but just be forewarned.

UL, I was hoping you would look at my dyno and respond. I am never tracking my car. It ran like shit when we tried to further richen it up, we actually had higher hp numbers at 14.1, but we backed it down to the 13.5 and 13.7 peak at the tailpipe sensor. We tried forever to straighten out that blip at the end of the powerband but we couldn't get it to go away. Is this common on other S2000's? Thanks, Phil

PS- The same Tuner that did my car did another Vortech S2000 here in town that has a Comptech header and was about 10 HP less than mine. I saw his dyno while we were doing mine. PT
