burning oil while idling or under a low load is typicaly oil rings. higher combustion chamber pressures get behind the rings and force them outwords creating the seal, but if the rings are worn or bad, when you dont have that outward force, oil gets by and burns off.
No problem under low load or at idle, as stated, it's when I pull away (ie under lots of load).

Disconnect the PCV system and run without it for a couple days. See what happens. Specifically, I'd pull the hose off the inlet tube and just let it suck unfiltered air.

You're really going about this backwards. The PCV is the first thing you should have serviced.

Yeh I did check the PCV at the early stages, but it rattled like it should.

What should I expect to see without the PCV attached?

If oil is getting from the PCV system to the intake it'll smoke. If you disconnect the PCV (both lines) and it stops smoking then you found your problem. You realize I hope that you can't just disconnect the big vacuum line and let it dangle, you'll have to plug it. I'd clamp the PCV vacuum line itself and disconnect the one that goes to the inlet and let it dangle.

you always pull away hard? load means how hard you work the engine, more or less throttle angle and rpm :-\

Not particularly hard. but it's not what you'd call 'low load' when pulling away from a stop in the S. Wouldn't you say?

Is it at all possible, you could explain a little more with the aid of this picture?

Sorry for my apparent lack of any kind of mechanical ability, I'm actually a really technical person, but no experience with this kind of thing.

I only see one line, like this pic. By the way, what is that thing on the far right of this pic (this is NOT my car by the way! Just an example pic showing the PCV).

Cool, thought so, but didn't want to guess, in case I looked like even more of a plonker. lol.
