AP2 Transmission Fluid Recommendations?
I've been reading the 'oil journals', and still confused with what to use on the AP2 tranny. I'm tempted to use the GM Syncromesh FM, but don't know how much it has been used much with the AP2 tranny. Any AP2 folks have much experience with stuff other than Honda MTF? If there is no significant advantage I guess I will stick with OEM.
Thank for the help in advance,
Arun

Are you having issues with your tranny? If not there is no point in experimenting with something when what you've got in there works well so far. If you have no troubles, why look for a solution?

If it ain't broke don't fix it eh? Well true, there are no problems... but I was wondering in there is a fluid that provides a better feel, maybe less crunch than stock.

I'm on my second fill of GMSMFM now. The initial switch from MTF to GMSMFM provided smoother shifting in all gears. After 11K miles, the GMSMFM started to get notchier (word?) so I changed it out again with little improvement. I concur with Xviper, if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. There's a good chance that I will go back to MTF on my next change.
BTW, my biggest concern with this ultra smooth gearbox is missing a gear (downshifting when you meant to upshift causing an over-rev if you don't catch it in time). Even though GMSMFM provides better lubrication for the tranny, be careful if you switch until you get familiar with the new feel of your gearbox and knowing what gear you are in.

i've been using gmfm for the last 20k or so and I've had good luck with it. The mtf just seemed to break down really quick from my experience and I change fluids every other oil change

I'm now at 20K. Since my shifter started to feel notchy, I decided to switch to GMSMFM. It does shift smoother...which I like! However, the shifter is still notchy when cold.

I think the original question was regarding AP2 trannies as they have different materials that make up the syncros.
As for AP1s, reactions to the efficacy of GMSM-FM varies. Some like it and some don't. I put it into another local S2000 and within 2 weeks, the owners pleaded with me to take it out and put the Honda stuff back in. Regardless, it is more common than not, that the GM fluid does not last long and considering that Honda has a very high change interval on the tranny fluid (like 4 years and 60K miles), doing it every year can be consider just a bit much. However, having said that, if you like the way it works in your car and you don't have a problem changing it often, then continued success to you.
