He was being sarcastic because you ignored Billman. Billman is the man when it comes to maintenance/general knowledge about the mechanical side of the S2000. If only he lived closer to Florida, he could check out my car and figure out what's wrong with it.

o okay, i was not talking about a complete transmission pull i was just talking about the companion flange swap only. i know how to pull the transmission. i am seriously thinking of doing this swap asap. the gear box is well worth the change. shorter 1-4 taller 5-6th(barely) but carbon synchros. i drove my friends ap2 and its like heaven when shifting and he has 70k miles on his car. his car feels much faster in the 1-4 big time. i have a sos clutch and 8lb flyhweel now, i just think with this overall setup of ap2 trans with 8lb fly and sos clutch it would be HELLA fun.

Yeah It feels way faster. I used to have an ap1 and it feels sluggish and with my ap2 engine and trans it pulls a lot harder..lol

It was not intended to be sarcastic because I think that I was the first S2000 owner to install an AP2 gearbox into an AP1 finding out that it's pretty simple preparing the companion flange and have helped others do it. In March of 2004 a car transport train derailed in North Dakota destroying or damaging more than 40 S2000. I found out that a company named LKQ was the insurance liquidator and bought one of those brand new gearboxes from them for the ridiculous price of $700. I told HardTopGuy (a vendor here) about it and I think that he bought 5 gearboxes and 10 differentials from them.

I'm just now installing an AP1 differential with an AP2 companion flange that I've built with J's 4.3 gears but that's a much more complex companion flange transfer than the transmission. It's been a flaming pain. I bought a used companion flange, never fully inspected it and installed it onto the diff and the diff into my car only to have a deep rumble when running. I thought that the pinion shaft must be bent but on closer inspection I found that the companion flange was bent. The seller screwed me on that purchase. I'll be swapping that flange this weekend.
Harry:
I didn't know you helped HTG get those parts. In a pay it forward method you in a sense HELPED ME!!! I bought the LAST AP2 Tranny from HTG.(6 miles on it) I was ecstatic when I learned this. It was a good price for what it was and likely he made some good coin on it to boot. Though probably sat on the unit for a good amount of time too! Just recently Scott up at Ballistic just swapped out my AP1 (4.77 gears) for an OEM AP2 diff. Said that the diff. flange swap was tough but he took his time and did it right. The Tranny one is NOTHING to swap.

David:
Your speedo will be off in general as there is a different final drive gear within the AP2 Tranny vs. the AP1 I believe that is the reason for it reading differently and it WILL be off. Yellow box info is here. http://www.ricks2k.com/products/yellowbox.php I have it in my car and have been using it for YEARS!!!! Flawless product once installed.

Oh and the hours vs. minutes quoted I believe is HOURS to swap the whole Transmission and ~10 minutes to swap the "actual flange itself". Two totally different things.

Looking at the factory service manual....

The secondary reductiion gear in the AP1 tranny is 1.160, and in the AP2 is 1.208.

1st-4th gears are same ratio's in both tranny's.

5th gear in AP1 is 0.979 and in AP2 is 0.943

6th gear in AP1 is 0.810 and in AP2 is 0.763

Doing some quick math show us that in

1st-4th the speedo will be 4.1% fast.

And 5th and 6th gear will be exactly the same between AP1 and AP2

On the street, at a typical 45mph in 4th, you'll actually be doing 46.8
