AP2 swap into AP1 using 04-05 ECU?
Hey all,
I'm considering an AP2 swap into my AP1 in the future. My main concern with the swap is accidently revving to high and damaging the motor. Is it possible to run the AP2 ECU to avoid revving over 8K? I really don't want to drop $3000 on Kpro and a tune. Thanks in advance. I'm aware that a shift light is an option.

Something wrong with your current engine? Do you have an AP2 engine, transmission, and all the electronics on hand?
The engine, immobilizer, and ECU should ideally come from the same donor car.
I recall the VIN number is recorded in the ECU. This will NOT match the VIN on your car and can't be modified unless the engine and ECU are 2006 or later. No smog testing down here in Richmond so I've not done much research if this is an issue.
I doubt any Honda dealer will touch this with a stick. Nor would I want one to mess with my car.

So if I have the engine, ECU, mobilizer, and key from a 2004-2005 I can straight swap?

Do not listen to Chuck, he has no idea what he is talking about as usual.
You only need the ecu, dealer should be able to program it.
Or you can get one of those china programmers and do it yourself.

Use any 04-05 AP2 ECU. Doesn't have to match the engine.
Have it reprogrammed to start the car using your key.
that's it.
I sure hope you're planning on using an AP2 trans or a diff reduction gear or something.

A 4.44 diff gear should put you close to where an AP2 tailshaft reduction would.
I just figured the AP2 trans would be much easier since the engine and trans would already be out for the swap.
So...needed? No.
But Honda updated the gear ratios for a reason. Its not a cheap endeavour to redesign a trans. The 2.2 isn't a good pairing to the AP1 trans.
And yes...I'm aware that you *can* rev the 2.2 to 9K. But you also *shouldnt*
