Ap2 secondary reduction gear in AP1 tranny
I'll be replacing my clutch as well as 2nd gear in my ap1 soon. I was looking at the parts diagrams and it seems that it would be really easy to swap in the ap2 secondary reduction gear while im in there, and fairly cheap too, about $180 in parts.
Has anyone ever done this?
I did the math and it would be similar to going to a 4.3:1 final drive gear
I did a search and found one person that did it but they didnt say how, and several people saying you couldnt do it...

That is a very interesting question, I hope someone with knowledge can enlighten us. I'd be interested to know about the other AP2 gear reductions (1,2 and 3) as well as the "taller" 6th gear. For instance, could you remove the 2nd gear reduction in an AP2. Or could you make an AP1 transmission's 6th gear taller (like an AP2)?
It would seem that if these are interchangeable then more advantage could be taken from different types of modifications such as lowered VTEC engagement or increased redline???
Not that I have plans on doing any of this but it is a very interesting topic.

Hey guys sorry for bringing this back from the back from the dead but this topic seemed to interest me as well. I dont want to open my stock diff so i think this is my best bet in changing teh final drive output of the car. Now my questions are
Where is the secondary reduction gear located? do anyone have pics? and would it be a PITA to remove/install? thanks guys.
