[QUOTE=deepbluejh,Jan 11 2011, 11:58 AM] Well that's reassuring.

I get it guys. No need to preach. The question was about the integrity of the engine, not about my shifting driving ability (which I will admit isn't perfect).

Motor is fine. You cannot over rev the motor with the throttle, only with a mechanical over rev. IE going from red in 4th to 3rd.

Honestly if your driving at redline with this car you need to be careful. But if your just cruising and accidentally miss shift there is so much more rpms left that it doesnt matter.

You'll be fine, that's what the rev limiter is for.

if the valves were bent then he would have already gotten a misfire code... so i think the motor is fine.....

^^^Please educate us, how would valves being bent would cause a misfire code? And, is it the only code that you'll get?

You started from first you pull it down to second assuming you miss shift to a different gear it be either 4th or 6th which would make you rev lower, other than that if you did nail 2nd then you'd be right on the power band (assuming you redlined first) so if what happened was you didn't get to put it in gear (2nd) and revved it freely in neutral then your rev limiter would save you. So no damage done.

So you missed 2nd gear from 1st, free revved the motor. Either the rev limiter saved you and your motor is fine, or you didn't hit it and your motor is fine.

/thread.

The motor is fine because he was coming from 1st gear redline pulling the shifter back to the next gear

1. he miss 2nd and shifted to 4th or 6th = low rpm

2. he nails 2nd gear from 1st gear redline = high revs 2nd gear

3. he tried shifting to 2nd gear from redline 1st gear and it didn't go in and free revved = rev limiter saved him.

To OP you're safe.
