Default AP2 motor + AP1 Tranny?

Ok I have been wondering because Im in need of a new motor. But dont really have the money to get a new transmisson with it. I want to upgrade to the F22 motor. But I was wondering what if I bolted it up with the old AP1 tranny? Slower? More "lag" I dont know. Any imput would help.

It will bolt up. Many have done the F22 swap without changing the tranny.

It's tough to tell what performance change you will see. The ap2 tranny has effectively shorter gears for 1-4, which helps acceleration. But it also means you have to shift sooner, which slows you down. Many believe that the F22 does better with the ap1 tranny gearing and the F20 does better with the ap2 tranny gearing.

Thanks NegCamber thats what I was thinking.... that... If the AP1 motor was better with the AP2 Tranny then the F22 Motor should be better suited for the AP1 Tranny. Would one set up be faster then the other? Or either set up better then the other?
ie: F20 with AP2 tranny better then F22 with AP1 tranny?
Does anyone have any experience with these set ups?

I have this setup F22 with AP1 tranny. Its much better. Everything bolts up the only thing you change is the fuel line I believe you just reverse the hose or get a new one. Don't remember been too long.

Sweet just what I wanted to hear. Do you have the F20 ECU or are you using the F22? Also For after market header? What would I get AP1 or AP2?

I've driven an F20 with the ap2 tranny, and it probably is quicker than a F20 w/ap1 tranny. There was a Best Motoring episode where the president of Spoon and Tsuchiya agreed that the F22 would be quicker on the track with an ap1 tranny since the ap2 had to shift too frequently.

Oh and can you run the F20 ecu with a F22 motor with out harming it?

Oh and thanks for all the help lol

Jim...I don't think anyone has run head to head with that combo to tell for sure what would be quicker. I think they would be very well matched, but they would be quicker than their stock counterparts.

Yes, you can run the ap1 ecu on the F22. Many people have. I would recommend you get modifry's shift beeper and train yourself to shift at 8500rpm. That is where Hondata believes it is safe to rev the F22. I do know some folks who occasionally run the F22 to 9k however. But I would keep that to a minimum if it were me. You may even get a bit more power if you can get a VAFC and have it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing.

Hmm would I need to a boomslang harness or somthing like that for the F20 ecu to be ran on the F22 motor? I really wouldnt want to unless I know its safe of sure. I think I would get to "rev happy" and hold it out too long too often.
