Default AP2 gauge cluster in AP1 with F22C

So last week my F20C was starved of oil (shop that made oil filter relocation kit ran the lines backwards), they sent me money for a new engine and I went and picked up a F22C out of an '05 with 10,000 miles. I also picked up the '05 ECU, gauge cluster, and behind dash wiring harness.

Well I've got the old engine out and the new one in, I have the entire dash out to swap the wiring harness to hook up to the gauge cluster. Problem is a few of the connectors down in the drivers side footwell don't match up. Does anyone have a way around this, is it possible? Soldering is not a problem.

Down here

The connector from the new harness has a different pin layout and the connectors is slightly different.

Also, the 2 white ones are on the new one and the grey one is from the old one.

Any help appreciated!

Really want to do the swap right? Get the other missing harness and isntall them too.

I assume you only have the upper dash harness and not the lower (lower with fuse box, Upper with speedo conections.

Yup, I only got the upper harness. Do I just need the one lower one now?

Question: How come you didn't just switch out the long block and use everything else ap1? Wouldn't that have been easier?

There is a small differance from modle year to model year on the harness. 00-01 match from what I have read (electornic trouble shooting manual), the 02-03 match and the 04-05 match and so on.

You have an 00 so the easest way to solve this is to just use the AP1 cluster you have. Sell the harness and cluster for some $$.

But yes, you need a matched set of haresses. the car I built has 02 stuff from end to end. I did try to install an 00-01 dash harness, and it fit all but one plug. That plug was the fuel pump so needless to say, I have to change that one. I would bet you are missing that connections right now too.

Yeah, I got a good deal for the gauge cluster and harness so I figured I would try and make it work. The dash is all torn off right now so it wouldn't be too hard to change out 1 or 2 more harnesses as long as they will work.

The other harness, goes behind the defroster vent in the center, next to the windshield. It is hard to replace without removing the heater core.

The qestion is can you get it before it is can you install it.

Looks like this connector can just be cut/soldered on.

Has the exact same amount of wires, all the wires are the right color and in the same spots, just a slightly different connector.

Now the only problem is the two white connectors vs. the 1 grey one. Different amount/colors of wires so can't cut solder here.

Soldered connections will break over time. The vibrations of the car is what caused them to break. That is why the harnesses are crimped in the first place. If you wwere going to hack that harness into place, it might be easier to swap the cluster connectors.

On that grey connector, you could remove the grey connector from wires and leave the connections connected. They will slip into the other grey connector.

If you use the AP2 ecu instead of the AP1 ecu with your F22 motor, you are leaving one of the best performance mods unused on the table.

An s2k with an F22 motor revving to 8500rpm is significantly faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile than either a stock AP2 or AP1. If you are going to rev to 8500rpm, you'd want a tach that goes that high instead of stopping at 8k.

Just a suggestion. Just use the F22 motor...leave everything else AP1 and have a faster car.
