So switching back to convetional oil will help the amount of oil being burned? My AP1 is burning oil about 1 quart every 1k.

i have a 01 with 91k miles, ive been using castrol edge 10w 40, HAVE I BEEN USING THE WRONG OIL? what should i use at 91k miles?? i was curious about royal purple but didnt know if 5w30 would be good for my car???
