AP1 oil question...
Just had the dealership swit h the oil to synthetic, after 129000 miles, and it seems to have burned a lot faster than regular oil. I didn't ask them to change it either. They assumed that my car was already using it, which it wasn't but i got a CEL today for random misfires and checked the oil. It was very low. First question, will it matter if I switch back to regular oil? and 2, How much oil is the AP1 supposed to burn? I've read a few topics that read it's common for an AP1. I don't want this to be common. Is there anything I can do to stop the oil consumption? Any and all help is appreciated...

according to the manual it is acceptable for ap1s to burn up to 1 quart per 1k miles. as for oil try valvoline maxlife, according to RoadRage it is a great oil for high mileage vehicles and it's cheap.

I've been using Mobil1 for seven years, had to top up less than 1/3 qt. only twice between changes, engine runs smooth and quiet. Is this an F20 only issue?
*hope I didn't jinx my car*
Back OT, I'd take it back to the dealer, they may have effed something else up when doing the oil change.

If your car has been using dino oil for all its life then you shouldn't switch to synthetic at 130k. Synthetic oil is significantly thinner and will leak past your rings. Switch back to dino oil and see how much you burn.

I checked the oil level last night before I went out and it was way below the low markings. I put in 2 quarts of valvoline full synthetic and the car sounded a lot better and my CEL for random misfires went away after about a half hour. Would it do anything to the motor if I went back to dino oil. I've still got about 2k before i'm due back for service but i'd rather not wait if it burns that quickly.

There should be no problem switching back to conventional oil. The only issue with synthetic oil on high milage vehicles is that the molecules are smaller and have a possibility to leak past seals and rings far easier than conventional.
