Ap1 oil consumption
#11
Again, switch oil type and see what happens.
Mine only had dino oil in it for the first few weeks I had it. I think that it I'd run it for a full oil change cycle, I would have seen consumption amount in the 2-3 quart range.
With Edge, I'm around 1/2 quart per 5k miles. Big difference!

Castrol Edge (formerly called Syntec). It's full synthetic.
I'm not at all saying that it will fix your issue (yours is really drinking it down), but it's a place to start.

I would try a different oil . I mean what do you have to lose ? I run Mobil 1 and don't have burning issues . If you run that , then try something else . Check the pcv valve while your at it . Other than that i'd say the engine could have an oil ring problem .

I would like to chime in, while reading that you were pouring 5qts of oil within an oil change interval, my eyes almost wanted to pop out of my eye sockets!!! haha
Anyhow, the first 2 years of owning MY00 I was using Mobil1 but I would constantly find my self using about a little over a Quart of oil within the 3,000 miles. I was roughly using a little over a third of quart every 1,000 miles; depending on how hard I drove the car. Explains how I would sometimes use more than a Quart.
Then one day I was talking to a good friend of mine at a local O'reilly and he was telling me how he's thinking about going with Castrol on his car even though they say Mobil are good for Hondas. He was telling about an expo he had gone to and met some of the people from Castrol and many other well know Brands. They recommended him to use Castrol or to at least give it a shot because of there new breakthroughs/engineers, etc.... This is when he was telling me, but he was a little worried about doing the change. So I took upon myself to be the guinea pig and now after two and half years, my S has only seen Castrol Syntec(Full Synthetic).
Now when I get in vtec, it hardly puffs any smoke compared to Mobil. On top of that, I also noticed my engine sounds a little quieter not as much valve ticking/noise (not that it was a concern in the past when I was using Mobil but compared to Castrol, I did notice a significant lower sound level.) The best part is it doesn't burn up as quick, I can go about 1,500 and use about a quart, if not slightly bit more. Compared to before and now after using Castrol, I use about half a quart less of oil between oil changes.
Good luck just wanted to share my experience.

When I was first researching oil consumption after I got mine, there were a number of posts from AP1 owners stating their cars drank both dino and Mobil 1.
I don't know what it is specifically about Mobil 1 that some AP1's don't like. It's long been considered the go-to synthetic. In fact, my Acura explicitly calls for nothing other than Mobil 1 to be used. Up to buying my RDX, I'd never known Honda to be overly picky about oil (just dump the same Honda labeled oil into all their cars). As much as I like Syntec (and I have happily used GTX in a number of cars), I'm heeding their suggestion. I will say that what you can see in the oil fill hole looks spotless (at about 150k miles), and it consumes no oil (not bad for a high compression, turbo engine).

5 quarts is a lot. I use to burn about 1 quart every 1,000 miles on my stock f20c. My compression is perfect at 240psi in all 4 cylinders. I stoped useing mobil 1and im now useing brad penn 10w-40 and i also installed crank vents. After this i burn about 1/2 a quart every 1,000 miles.
