Default AP1 Knock Sensor

I've recently replaced my knock sensor and while doing so, I popped the damned connector/cover off of it while tightening it down. I didn't damage the single wire but it is exposed now. Nonetheless, I connected it to the harness and went about taking the car out for a drive. I have no CEL. The car seems to be running well. However, I noticed after several drives the exhaust tips have accumulated more black soot than I recall over the years. I'm wondering if I'm running rich now and it is due to the Knock sensor even though the ECU doesn't see an issue with it.

Has anyone else come across these two issues (Knock sensor cover/connector easily popping off and running rich without a CEL)?

Thanks,
David

Even if it seems to be working I'd be more comfortable with a new sensor that makes a secure and sealed connection to the harness.
