AP1 immobilizer

AP1 immobilizer
I tried swapping my '05 ecu into my '02 for troubleshooting purposes. i taped the key together like the service manual suggested and the immobilizer/ecu didn't recognize the AP2 key.
i did not cut a new nonprogrammed blank for this test. my assumption is that i have both keys on my key ring and having an AP1 and an AP2 key right next to each other does not throw off the immobilizer in neither of the cars.
is this logic ok? or do i have to get a blank key cut? or is it that AP1 immobilizers are different than AP2's?
thanks

the immobilizer is not supposed to recognize the ap2 key. it's trying to recognize the ap1 key. not a different key. the immobilizer has more to it than just the key and the ECU.
I'm going to suggest you pm billman250 or slows2k for help on this, and close the thread as we tend to want to not publicize the intricacies of our immobilizer systems. i hope you understand.
