really?

you burned 1 quart every 1,000 miles, and now you burn zero?

by switching to valvoline semi-synthetic 5w20?

why would a light weight, 5w20, burn less oil?

also, what oil were you using before the switch?
Well I've consistently checked the level every 250 miles and just hit 3000 today without any noticeable loss.

Yes, I was over 2 quarts low after 2500 miles. I could tell something was up from the sound of the nosier than usual valve train so I checked the level and started looking into what was up.

I used 5w20 because that's what I had available at the time and it was free. Buddy ran 5w20 in his 03 for 15k+ with no issues.. car is now boosted making 400+ on pump.

I don't think it was from the viscosity but when I do the next change I'm going with semi 10w30. I guess we'll see though..

I was using Mobil One 10w30 w/ Mobil One filter.

@JackS I'm fairly positive I would have noticed a puddle or drips of oil on the drive not to mention the outside of my motor and underbody shows no signs of leakage past nor present. Also I'm competent enough to tighten my J's drain bolt to torque spec (w/crush washer) because god knows J's parts are not cheap haha.

so if you don't think it's the viscosity,

do you think it's because its semi-synthetic,

or because it's valvoline semi-synthetic?

who knows...

if castrol gtx doesn't improve it for me, i'll try valvoline semi-synthetic 10w30

Mine consumes about a quart every 1,500. It's always used M1 10W30 and OEM filter. I changed to M1 High Mileage 10W30 yesterday and replaced my PCV valve for the first time....ever. The car feels like it has a lot better throttle response in the midrange, not sure if it's placebo but I'll follow up on the oil consumption.
any updates?

Does anyone consider doing an oil analysis? That's one of the best things to do if your motor is burning oil. An oil analysis will reveal why.

I don't think this statement about used oil analysis is accurate, but I'd be happy to listen to how this is possible. What specifically is identified in the UOA that would reveal why someone has oil consumption?
