Default AP1 burns oil, but how much is acceptable?

I bought a AP1 earlier this year and did an oil change with Mobile1 syn right after I bought it. I drove 3000 miles and saw the low oil pressure light turned on for a second. It's low on oil. I brought the car to mechanics and he added 2 qts of 20W?? because he said higher viscosity helps engine that burned oil. It's still not full so he ended up adding another 2.5 qts of 10W30. Total of 4.5 qts of engine oil added.

Since there is no leak, he suggested me to sell this car as it is burning way too much oil in 3000 miles (plus I don't get into vtec range at all. It's mostly rev below 5k rpm) and there may be problems with this engine. He also said if the engine is problematic, it will burn oil faster and faster so I better sell it asap.

I want to test another interval how much oil it burned to be accurate and I now drove another 800 miles, dipstick shows 2 diamonds lower from full mark. I know s2k burned oil esp. AP1. I usually heard it burned 1qt between oil changes but is mine burning way too much? Should I sell it? Any suggestion? I also see from another thread that engine may blow months after low on oil pressure light. Any insight?

I love this car handling after getting it and hate to see it go but if engine is problem, I should get rid of it to avoid the expensive bill for engine swap later on. Thanks folks.

According to honda one quart every 1000 miles is normal. Start using regular 10w30 and see how it goes before u sell it. My car has 134k and i only burn 1 quart in 5k miles.

Mobil 1 sucks for Honda high revving engines in S2000/RSX-S/Civic Si/etc

I use Mobil 1 in my AP1. I change my oil at 6-7k miles. Never needed to add more than 1/2 quart. With 12+ autocrosses a year, this car is not babied.

I would save the engine by getting it rebuilt.

Kind of dishonest to sell it with a known issue unless you are going to share this info with the buyer. I say get ready to rebuild the engine, who knows what might happen after running it on 0.5 quarts of oil.

I've never had any issues with my oil level dropping at all between changes, but I do get a little bit of residue around the Vtec solenoid with amsoil.
