Hamp no longer makes the larger filter (M1540). Only the small ones are available (H1540).

So, all else being (theoretically) equal, what's the benefit of running a smaller filter?

Could just be me but I think the smaller filters are bad. I noticed my car started to burn more oil (about a quart in roughly 1000-1500 miles)while using the small hamp filters. After going back to the stock filter, no more oil comsumption.

Did you check for leaks? I'm on my 5th HAMP filter and all is well. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Now they (US Honda dealers) have Honda filters made in Japan especially for our car, I would just use that since it's just as good, if not better, than the big HAMP.
The small HAMP is indeed a newer size and I noticed Honda also has the same size filter which can be found on the RSXs. Since I don't see the small oil filter being used on the S2000 from the factory, I rather just stick with the large (regular) size filter.

ive gone through 6 of the "smaller" hamp filter's w/o any problems.. no premature bottom-ing out, no leaks, no excessive oil burn.
i've got 2 left. after these are gone, i'll switch back to the honda PCX's.

Hi folks,
Good topic on the filters.
Just a couple of comments:
HAMP no longer makes the big filters. The small ones are the correct ones for the S2000, part# H1540-PLC-505.
I have not experienced any leaks on my car.
HAMP filters are distributed by Honda dealerships in Japan. When the filters arrive here, they come in cartons labeled "Genuine Honda Parts".
I keep a personal stash of 2 cases.
Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
