Anyone Seen a Rusted Out OEM Exhaust System?
Just curious about the composition of the OEM exhaust system. I have a MY02 and the original exhaust system is in good shape. But I'm wondering what parts of it may fail in the future. It apppears to me that the piping is stainless steel, and perhaps the resonator is stainless steel as well, so they should last indefinitely correct ?.
The mufflers don't appear to be stainless, so I'm curious to hear if anyone has seen a rusted out OEM exhaust system ?. I have a chance to pick up some spare parts, so it would be good to know. Thanks for any replies.

MY'00 exhaust: welded once.
(Inlet of left muffler detached from muffler)
I drove around with that just a little too long and I think that "hammering muffler" damaged the cat, loosened the cores.
It looks rusted and has dents but no leaks.
It has a (new) little rattle every now & then.
And its heavy.
Soon to be replaced by a Fujitsubo Legalis-R.

The whole system is stainless... and the mufflers are triple walled.
I think the worst enemy is too much unburnt fuel being corrosive... that or salted roads. But it looks like the places where everybody is posting from doesn't salt the roads.

I see some rust on the welds between the inlet pipe and the muffler, so perhaps those are the weak points where regular steel meets up with stainless. Thanks for that info.

Mine also rusted at the weld from the inlet to the muffler. The damn pipe just slid right out and the muffler dangled by the hanger. I just had to take it in and get the pipe welded back into place. All good now. Had been hearing a rattle for a while and couldn't figure it out till the car got hideously loud one day and it all made sense.
