Anyone have problems with broken rockers destroying motors?
So I was just normally driving on the highway at 65mph, when I went to get on the off ramp and started to deccel, the entire motor came apart. There is 2 six inch holes on the front cylinder of the block where the rod broke and beat the shit out of the block. I heard about cracking retainers on the ap1 so I pulled the valve cover off to find 1 broken rocker on the intake side (pics below).
Anyone else have a rocker come apart and cause sooo much damage? I mean the entire motor is ruined, possibly the crank is ok but that's about it.
Also looking for a motor on another note lol

Are you NA or boosted? Valve springs look OE (yellow paint on intake side)...but i think the rocker wasnt the problem but more likely the piston made contact with valve for some reason and made the rocker fall apart. I doubt crank is ok too... either way sorry to hear that.
EDIT: hows is the cam chain? Snapped? Jumped teeth?

Chain is fine no slack, and if it was the valves that made it break I think it would have been more than just the single one of the three broken.
I just don't want this to happen again with another motor.
The car is boosted but like I stated I was just driving completely normal when it happened and no warning at all. The reaso. I think the crank is possibly ok is because the rod cap is still bolted to it and the bearings are fine but no matter what I need a complete long block

when you get source your replacement long block, i would replace the banjo bolts to "4 hole" new ones..and maybe AP2 retainers while you are at it (since you dont want to go thru this ever again)...

Oil pains already off, and as far as replacing other parts the motor will most likely be built anyway but the retainers didn't break or fail on this motor but I know other people have had problems with them

I - wildly! - guess the rod broke first.
Maybe the crank launched the piston up with the intake valves open.
(this also means there is no air cushion to slow the piston down)
That impact broke the rocker.

I've shattered rods in a couple B series motors and the valves touched and nicked the pistons but didn't actually break the valves. And I was wot on those motors at around 24 psi
Also why would the rod break at 65mph at 3500 rpms no load and no warning, misfire, knocking, clicking, ect?
