Thanks for the lead, JFUSION. I haven't looked in there, yet. I'll check it out and let you know. Do you know if it is possible that a loose clamp would contribute to a vacuum leak and therefore cause a code? The car is a 2002, so it possibly has the fuel filler neck issue, but would that actually make the cabin smell like gasoline?

I wonder if I can get it repaired for free. Usually a TSB isn't a warranty item, but you never know. Anyone have experience with this?

I wasn't getting any CEL's on the issue , but I got tired of messing with a binding gas cap every time I filled the tank with fuel. I bought a used ap2 fuel pipe and just installed it in my ap1, the cap now slips on effortlessly and very smoothly, glad I did it.

With your car I was just thinking if it was in an accident it is possible that one of the connectors is loose. A loose hose would allow fumes to fill the cavity between the trunk and the cabin and could vent into the cabin easily through the rear panels - which are vented if you look at them. When you drive in certain conditions it could draw out the fumes depending on wind patterns as well.

The fuel pipe connects to 3 rubber hoses, then those rubber hoses connect to the fuel tank and evap system , it is possible any of those connections could cause a leak. Not saying it is for sure but it is easy to check.

The gas cap doesn't go on smoothly, so I suppose it has the filler neck problem at a minimum. That shouldn't be causing the fuel smell, though. I tried pulling that boot back the other day to see the connections, but they weren't visible. Not sure how far back I had to pull it, but I pulled as far as I could with gentle pressure. I'll update after I take it by Blake's this week.

Pull the rubber boot back until you see the metal pipe , it takes a bit of force , no need to be gentle. So you can see if there are three clamps in place wand the rubber hoses are connected properly.

Looks like the fuel filler neck was the culprit. It had a hole in it. Picked a used one up for $30. The secondary air pump is toast as well.

#16 in the following link is the fuel filler neck: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...gry5=FUEL+TANK

#1 in the following link is the secondary air pump. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...cgry5=AIR+PUMP

I hope it is just the bump and not something else causing the pump to go bad. The secondary air pumps are nowhere as cheap as the fuel filler neck. Does anyone happen to know what might have caused this to go bad? The clips on the pump are toast and the front bumper has been replaced, which is leading me to suspect that it was the culprit of an accident, but I am not familiar with the system. Could something have shorted it out, causing it to explode?

good to hear you resolve the issue with the fuel filler neck, hopefully you got one that was post-2002 so it doesn't suffer from the issue that pre 2003 necks had.

As for the air pumps they do fail on a regular basis, an accident wouldnt help the situation but they do eventually die out on their own. I picked up a spare used pump for the future when my factory pump eventually croaks.

Picked up one from an '04. Not sure how many miles are on either the secondary air pump or the fuel filler neck. I figure it doesn't matter. The only pumps I've seen fail so far were due to accidents, so hopefully it'll last.
