I've never grinded 6th gear until this morning. (Early in the morning too I might add, boy did that nice grind wake me up. )

What do you mean by "sticky"? What I've noticed recently is that 6th gear (and to a much lesser extent also 5th gear) has been a little tougher to shift into when the car is cold. It used to be easier to get into. Now, sometimes the shifter will go in about 1/3 of the way and then pop out (this happens silently, no grind or anything). Afterwards, it usually goes in okay when I push it again.

This morning, however, I pushed it into 6th after it had popped out (clutch pedal was still down), and that's when I got the grind.

Thanks a bunch for any input. Again, all of this is only when the car is cold. I haven't noticed anything odd once it's warmed up for maybe 10 minutes.
because 5th and 6th gear are on the same "ring" so to speak, obviously the problem lies there. the fact that it's getting "sticky" or harder to get into gear when the car is cold indicates a growing problem. I dont remember the specifics of what causes this, but I'm going to get your thread moved to UTH. xviper and the others can help.

I have never had the 1-2 grind in my 02',just SLIGHT notchy feeling when cold. When I first got my S I was shifting to fast, and would get a slight grind going from 2-3 only. I soon learned to shift a little slower, and all is well. All shifts are now smooth and crisp.

i've had the following gear grinds: 1-2, 2-3, and 5-6.

The 5-6 gear grind sounds funny and feels funny, but easily engages into gear regardless of noise. Usually the 5-6 gear grind only occurs at higher speeds (>110mph). I've had this for 40k miles now, but I guess it never bothered me enough to do anything about it as I do not drive >110 mph that often.

One little bumpity bump for you, my precious thread.

Ok, the grind didn't happen last night or this morning, but thought I'd give this one last bump to solicit additional input...

Unlike what medicalstudent described, my 6th gear grind didn't happen at higher speeds. I was only going normal freeway speed - around 60 MPH.

For what it's worth, I'm using GM Synchromesh FM in the transmission. This batch of fluid is about 7k-8k miles old. I've been using this stuff in my transmission for about 21k miles now, and used the first batch for about 13k miles before deciding to change it (completely arbitrary decision to do so).

I'll probably try going back to Honda MTF to see if that makes any difference, but I'm doubtful. The reason I want with GM Synchromesh FM to begin with was because I hated how 2nd gear felt (when cold) with Honda MTF.

I've also noticed that my clutch pedal doesn't feel well. Clutch still seems to "grab" okay, but the pedal is a bit sticky and rubbery-feeling near the bottom few inches of travel. I'd expect a master/slave cylinder issue to affect all gears, not just specific ones, though. But still, definitely something to keep in mind.
