Since I had my S, I haven't really gone to 9k rpm. Wouldn't know what it feel like, but I mainly stay around 3-4k rpm and I'm still burning oil. I guess I'm going to try Castrol Edge since I heard good news on it.
I can't believe that. You've never even experienced what an s2000 was meant to do! It's like... i don't know... buying a cheetah and never allowing it to run.

This is the best knowledge/advice I've heard so far about this.
The explanation of oil burning in the AP1 is good. But I don't understand the point of the catch can. What difference does it make if it's burning oil or it goes in the catch can. Either way it's out of circulation, so what difference does it make?

A buddy of mine has an ap1 and his motor eats loads of oil. before his engine seized (due to oil starvation) he also complained of mobil 1 being insufficient. i would highly recommend checking the oil every other trip to the gas station, as many other owners do.

i have an ap2 and i also consume large quantities of mobil 1. since then i have searched to find which oil dont burn up so easy in my engine. so far i have found that pennzoil platinum is pretty good. my motor does consume small quantities over a 3,xxx mile period time-a helluva lot less than mobil 1.

try different oils, do some research and find out which one is best for you.

btw i have also invested in a oil pressure gauge. on 2 occasions the gauge has saved my ass.

I'm using Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic. I'm burning it. I'm hating it. I'm getting rid of it.

It killed my TCT (or contributed to it) in less than 3k.

I'll be using the Amsoil.

Crank vents block off the pcv system. They also trash the crank seal on the timing chain cover.
Can you expand on this? Krank Vents block pressure going into the head, not leaving it. How does this affect that seal?

Thanks,
J

The amount of oil that gets caught in an oil catch can does not equate to what gets consummed by this engine filled with Mobile1. I had one installed on my '00 for 90k miles and I've had one on my '03 for the last 14k miles. There is only a few teaspoons caught over 3k miles depending on the conditions of driving. The engine still consumes about a quart every 3k miles. Lots of VTEC consumes oil. My car runs autocross at least twice per month, so lots of VTEC. There have been ocasions where I have added about 1/2 a quart within one month. This would be after freeway trips cruising at 4500-5000 RPM for long durations (2 hours or more) and autocross. I would guess that track cars would consume the same or more?

There is nothing wrong with Mobile1 if you are diligent about checking your oil. I check mine before every autocross, so at least twice per month.

If you don't run Mobile1 be sure to run a FULL synthetic oil as it keeps the engine lubricated well and cleaner. There is no reason to replace the PCV if you run sythetic and change your oil on a regular (2-5k) basis.

What is your proof that Mobile1 caused it to fail?

I think that Mobile1 is not the root cause of your TCT failing. The failure of TCTs does not correlate to oil brand.
