Mobile 1 is junk, Amsoil, Royal purple, and a few others are on the top list of best oils out there.
As far as burning oil, I believe it has to do with being in vtec and your PCV system, thats why "krankvents" help.
And yeah M1 (mobile 1) def ate my tct up bad, i switched to RP (royal purple) and it cleared right up, altho i believe the noise will come back so I will prolly try that whole sanding the wrym gear thingy.

Which FAQ says not to use Mobil 1? I have used it since I bought my car and noticed the car consumes oil, but did you not read the owners manual that comes with the car? Any VTEC engine that revs to 9000 rpm will consume a little bit of oil.

It's an ap1. They're known to consume oil. Granted, almost all engines with VTEC tend to burn oil. The ap1 in particular has an issue with oil collecting on the driver's side of the engine which pools into the PCV on hard right-hand turns. The oil that goes through the PCV is recirculated back into the intake which is then burned in the combustion cycle. Honda fixed this on the ap2's with proper drainage in the valve cover.
You will need an oil catch-can to contain the oil that escapes through the PCV so it doesn't burn in the combustion chambers. You will still have to keep an eye on the oil level but at least it won't be burning the oil, just catching it.

Switch oil. I'm telling you. I've run four different brands and watched the catch can, and Mobil1 is the thinnest at speed. They are all good oils, but mobile one atomizes more off the cams.

I run Mobile 1 in my '05 AP2 with 62k miles. A couple weeks ago I spent a track day at Thunderhill in California. We got six 20-25 minute sessions (over 2 hours at speed!) in well over 100F. The oil level dropped down about 1/4 of the dipstick hi/lo range. I attribute this low consumption primarily to a superior engine design by Honda, but the motor oil certainly resisted viscosity breakdown and blow-buy under pretty extreme conditions. I don't know what "atomizing off the cams" means, but whatever it is I don't experience it.

honda has a TSB on the S2000 for it. it says to check the oil about every 300 miles. i have not noticed this prblem in my ap2 yet but i do use mobile 1 since honda uses mobile oil anyways
