Default Anybody have this happen?

I checked my oil recently and it was low so I decided to add a little. The cap wouldn't come off no matter how hard I tried. I figured I'd wait until the motor was completely cool to try again thinking the heat made it hard to open. Nope that didn't do the trick. I didn't do the previous oil change myself and I'm surprised my mechanic made it so tight. Any body have any ideas on what to do to make it loosen up? I was thinking a oil filter wrench may do the trick but not sure if there are any small enough? BTW I still have about 1000 miles to next oil change. Any help is appreciated.

Use one of those rubber strap type jar lid openers. It won't risk damaging the cap.

[QUOTE (SpoonS2kMe @ Jan 21 2006, 03:09 AM)
use a socket wrench

How would this work on the oil cap?]

I suspect he would "Sock" it with the wrench.

I use a long flat blade screwdriver, placing the tip carefully against the side of one cap cutout at an angle in the direction to unscrew. The hit the butt of the screwdrive with my hand or small wrench.

Sort of crude but mostly successful.
