Default Any tried to duct intake to vented hood?

Thinking about trying this... building a duct from the J's vented hood to the filter box, since the stock airbox is RIGHT under the vent. Anyone tried this or think its a bad idea?

I think it's a bad idea because the shape of the J's Racing hood is designed to draw air OUT of the engine bay. So instead you'll be sucking air out of the intake.

why not just drill a hole through the headlight and put a tube in there that goes right to the intake.

No closeup pics, but you can see the idea....

Drilling through the headlight would be best, but you will have to seal it off from moisture also, or else you will get the yellowing of the lights.

The vent is a low pressure area, unlike the area that the OEM box draws from normally which is a high pressure area. Not only would drawing air from that vent reduce air flow, but it would be hot air.

I cut out a chunk of the bumper under the headlight and inserted a NACA duct. I also sealed up the inside of the wheel well so all the air goes up into the intake instead of shooting off into the cracks. Here's a pic of the original duct...I've since replaced it with a proper black duct that fit better and looks a lot cleaner.

If you wanted to use hood "vents" to draw air into your intake, you'd need a true cowl induction hood (air is drawn in towards the back of the hood, at the cowl). As Elistan pointed out, the purpose of the vented hood is exactly that: to vent air out.

Hang on! You cut a hole in your front bar about 4 inches above the faux 'air' vent!

Anyone else see the irony?

I agree, but maybe he uses those for brake ducts.
