My suggestion about the companion flange nut was specifically to address noise on decel that warpspeed is hearing. Read more about it here.

The noises that everyone else is complaining about sounds like poor backlash or pinion depth adjustments. I know from experience that adjusting pinion depth is a VERY time consuming and costly "trial and error" process, and I really doubt a mechanic will even bother trying to get it right. If the noise is coming from tight backlash, then the noise will probably go away over time. I intentionally set my backlash at the tight end of the spec, and they were a bit whiney for about 1K miles.

Thanks guys, I'm going back to the installer to talk to him more. Do me a favor - next time you come up to a stop sign, take your car out of gear and coast to a stop. Let me know what you hear.

See my post here: http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=194929

Excessive noise beyond what I decribed in my post is probably an install issue. The 4.57s are performance gears, designed for performance purposes, so there will be more gear noise that the stock gears. But anything more than a whir, and only when on the throttle, is likely an install issue. If the gears make noise when coasting or decelerating, it's definitely an install issue.

You should talk to SoFL members bullet1123 and fyrestrike. Both had the 4.57's installed in Feb, and both experienced a substantial increase in noise (whining) during break-in. Hopefully they'll chime in here with their current impressions.

Anyone care to estimate how much 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are shaved with the 4.57 gears?

You guys should look up some old threads (and new ones too) by Italianbucwheat. He has done many controlled experiments with 4.44 and 4.77 gears in his car using an accelerometer. His findings will interest you.
