Saki, I'd be willing to do a side by side test of the airbox mod with you next time you come down.

maybe we could also test my CF intake system VS stock as well.

You will loose MAJOR horsepower without the lid, or removing the box. We've proven that years ago.
i have to disagree with you.

I had my car dyno'd. The 4th run (which is in red) is with the top of the lid off. It actually gained 1lb-ft. This is with a bone-stock AP2 with 28k miles.

That is an air resovior. It helps prevent a negative pressure surge when you crack the throttle.

Leave it alone or sound good and be slow
Ok, so it's an air resivoir. Why would it matter if I were to block it off if i had my lid off anyway? It should get enough surrounding air to begin with, no?

you people with the dyno videos dont realize that with the hood up and a fan blowing air at the engine bay, the hot air can escape a whole lot easier, dyno tests arent 100% representative of real world driving conditions.

Then how do we know that its loosing major horse power in every day driving conditions if theres no way to test it? Not trying to be a smart ass but I mean come on. I know theres a difference between going faster because theres more power and feeling faster because its louder. Theres not much of a diference with just a modded stock box, but feels like there faster throttel response and a lil more power. Feels as tho the car can breath. I think if you really want the power we all should forget the box and go with a after market intake. Why waste time with "it feels faster but is it?" IMO

Billman said earlier that when you run it side by side...you will be slower with the lid off.

if your car is stock, do a test run with another stock s2k...with your lid ON and OFF.

^Not trying to be a smartass, but thats how. This topic, like many other topics, has been beat to death on this forum, it basically comes down to the fact that warmer air going into the engine=less horsepower, also, the stock intake is so well engineered that you'd be hard pressed to find an aftermarket one that added more than a few horsepower, if any, most actually lose a few.

this topic is sooooooo beaten. modding, removing, replacing the factory airbox will give you one thing:

a nicer sound and the good feeling that you "modded" something when you go to at night
