So far, I have been unable to locate the exact problem. However, I've been trying to see if the fan will activate and it doesn't seem to turn on at anytime. Does anyone who has an ap1 (not sure if Ap2 is the same) know about how long it takes before the fan actually turns on at idle?
have you tried changing the water pump yet? i would lean towards water pump.

i have an AP2. I waited for the fan to turn on for quite a while and it didnt. both turned on when i turned the AC on though. the dealer said that was normal. maybe try turning on your AC and see if that helps at all. careful though, the AC will make the engine warmer.

mine did the same thing while driving down the freeway, coolant just boiling out of the reservoir, i replaced the radiator cap first because it was the easiest, inexpensive and fortunately that solved the problem. hopes this helps you out

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the temp sensor. If its gone bad your fan would just never turn on leading to your overtemp. The fluid would be low after you boiled the fluid, first off since all that vapor coming out is fluid in vapor form and second once the fluid cools down it occupys less space.

One sure thing is to use your heater. That will give u an idea of how hot the water really is. If the heater doesn't work you're in deep ish...means you lost a lot of water and yu shouldn't be driving it
