Default Another newb question about Hondadata

I see all these reports of over-reving the engine and it dies the next day. So how come people can get a Hondadata for the RSX and go way past redline and not have any problems? Is the RSX engine better built or something? How does it survive without valve damage to the head?

Hondata doesn't make a programmable ECU for the S2000 yet. the overrevs that cause damage greatly exceed the stock redline, and you can probably rev another 1000 or so in the F20C before you get problems. The K20 engine is a newer architecture, and it's not necessarily better built. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see honda use a K series int he next iteration of the S. It is a more mod-friendly motor, definitely, but it is still vulnerable to over-revs just like the F20. I dont know how many RPM's your'e talking about, but I've seen photos of a K20A that blew itself to pieces after a missed shift...any car will do that.

overreving implies a botched shift...adjustng the rev limiter implies a stand alone ECU that is fully programmable, IE hondata. there is probably a reason why hondata hasn't come out with one. I bet it could be done with piggyback controllers like the Apex'i VTEC controller or similar unit. and yeah, the S2000 could probably safely rev a bit higher but i'd definitely put in titanium valvesprings and retainers.
