Another GM Syncromesh FM convert.....
Changed my tranny and diff. fluid today. Went with the ever popular GM Syncromesh FM for the tranny and as everyone has stated previously, a nice improvement has been felt with the shifts. They are smoother and less notchy. Overall I am very pleased with the swap. I changed the diff. fluid to Mobil 1 75w90. The fluid that was drained looked very good and the magnetic drain plug had some gunk on it, but not much at all. The car has 13k miles on it and has been through 2 autox's. I figure if you play hard you need to take care of the car. Next fluid change will be brake and clutch fluid. Then my car will be nicely lubricated for another series of autox's.

I changed to the GM Synchromesh FM over the weekend and there is a nicely noticable improvement in smoothness of the shifting. Changed the engine oil to Amsoil 10w-30 + Valvoline Maxlife EP additive.
My car seems very happy.
Changing the diff fluid next weekend to LE 607.

Everyone seems to really love this GM FM but has anyone done testing on it's impact on tranny longevity? I was always under the impression that tranny fluid was about compromises. Using a Full Synthetic is best for your gears but bad for the synchros and vice versa (synchros need friction to operate correctly). So if the GM stuff has more Friction Modifiers then say MTL/MT90 then yes it would shift better but may not protect the entire tranny as well. Sorry, may be way off base here.. I suppose it will be better then Honda MTF all around but what about MTL and other synthetic baseds fluids? If there is a trade off, I just want to make an informed decision.
Also, originally there was talk that these other fluids may not be compatible with the CF synchros in the 04's. Has this been cleared up yet?

Hum... Quick question, I just changed my Diff fluid this weekend, at close to 15,000 miles, (reccomended for sever conditions by owners manual) what is the milage reccomended under sever conditiions to replace trans fluid? I dont believe it told me to do it, but if i am supposed to I would like to take care of that asap as well...

Honda MTF did not cut it for my car. After 3000 miles the trans got notchy again, and started with the 1-2nd grinds.
After the GM fluid the trans went back to smooth during cold shifts to smoother after 10 minutes.
At 3000 miles on the fluid it still feels good.
