Would it be a bad idea to use this gear oil? Its relatively cheap, and its made by Honda. It is a Hypoid Gear oil, is the same weight, and it is GL5. Thanks.
It either meets the API GL-5 spec or it doesn't.
If it does it would say so on the bottle, SAE 80W-90 GL-5
That said, this is most likely the 80W-90 hypoid gear oil Honda Canada suggested to use in the S2000 diff instead of the hard to find OEM recommended SAE 90 oil, because the 80W-90 will flow a little better in the cold.
IMO INDYMAC said it all in his comment about diff oil.
My personal preference in an OEM diff would be SAE 110 or 75W-110 GL-5.
That is the closest to the OEM SAE 90 GL-5 recommended oil in 1999.
And that's a fact

I just changed my fluids 2 days ago along with the spark plugs. I used
Royal Purple 10w-30
Royal Purple oil filter
Royal Purple MTF
Royal Purple 75w-90
NGK Iridiums
Power seems smoother and the tranny deffenently shifts better now.
