Using the Amsoil 10w-30, only costs $5.30 a quart at the place I buy from, Fairfax Auto Parts, so its only 60 cents more than Mobil 1 or Castrol Synth. I also use the Diff Fluid, nice and quiet. Soy

I'm running 5w-30 in mine and love it! I got a case from my brother as a gift. He runs 0w-30 in his Ford Explorer V8.
I think 0w-30 would be a little thin for the S2k. The owner's manual calls for 10w-30. I run 5w-30 for engine start-up reasons. In theory it's suppose to pump oil through the engine faster. I don't think it really makes a difference though. I just "think" it makes a difference.

i have always used 0w-30 with no problems.
the first number preceding the w is the winter weight (or cold weight). the lower it is the less viscous it is at lower temps. the 30 is the oil weight at operating temperatures.
the reason i picked the 0w-30 was because someone on the bmw board i read sent out all the syntheitc oils out on the market for testing and the 0w-30 came back with the best numbers for ALL the tests including highest breakdown temp. which surprised me but the numbers dont lie. also the viscosity of that oil throughout the temp range was very stable and comprable to the other 30 weight oils at their operating temperatures.
it is expensive stuff, and i do change the oil every 3000 miles, but it is the best stuff out there.
