Amsoil signature series @ $11.10/qt
5 qt per oil change (low estimate)
11.1 x 5 = $55.50 per oil change (if DIY)
+ whatever it costs to ship from Evasive (that's my pricing reference point here)

200,000 easy miles on any well maintained motor, on average, let's say
3,000 mi/OCI, let's say (which let's be honest, most of the guys willing to buy Amsoil are doing these really short OCIs)
200,000 / 3,000 = 67 oil changes x $55.50 = $3,718 (without shipping of the oil)

Same motor, miles, OCI... but using let's say Castrol Edge Syntec with Titanium additive = $25.00 per 5 qt at walmart (no shipping cost)
This is 67 x $25 = $1,675

Difference of AT LEAST $2,000. For that kind of money, you're halfway from being able to pretty much pick up a low mileage block and possibly even rebuild your head to be good as new...

Is the DIFFERENCE between amsoil and the castrol edge, in this example (but there are TONS of other oils in the same ballpark) really worth THAT difference in price?

(I do understand it for tracking, maybe - but street use? no)

I change my oil maybe to often, I run the ams oil dominator. I also signed up for the dealer package with ams oil and give it to all my locals at the cost. not to bad of a gig. they do about 25% discount. so your XL oil is about the same pprice as your over the counter.

All Amsoil products are good.To me,Oil is cheap.

I use OE 0w20 in my '13 EXV & 02 CRV.The other cars are perf cars,so I use the upgraded Sig Series 0w30.

No love for Brad penn? I only use Amsoil for the diff
Brad Penn is a good oil, a lot of the muscle guys love it on flat tappet valvetrains as it has a good dose of zinc. Some engines really need it. Not so great on a setup that runs an oem cat as high zinc can be bad for the cat, but it is a good oil.
Brad Penn is awesome also. there is local that sells a case of 12 for like $60

I also like Driven oil. a have a buddy that runs this.

No worries. I've been using Mobil 1, since the dawn of mankind. Well ok, since I started farting around with cars. Those engines lasted a LONG time. I'm a satisfied customer.

I disagree. The primary advantage of using Signature Series 0W-30 is its high TBN that allows the user to extend OCIs significantly. If you look at the UOAs on BITOG you'll see most Signature Series users do extended OCIs.

I use Signature Series 0W-30 and I go 40,000 miles between oil changes. And I'm already at 342,000 miles on my S.

I absolutely agree with you. I started my response thinking I was going to go into that but instead just became a hater lol. I was trying to originally make my point that the street guys that insist on Amsoil signature series oil are almost always the same people that are changing every 3,000 miles. That's a waste.

But I do believe there is solid evidence that that oil DOES last longer. And I believe that chomps into the payback significantly (especially since there's less OCI's comparatively and other cost factors that are reduced). It's just not what most of those people are doing, and it's such a waste of good oil.
